Defending the Title - Mariah Katzer

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

Commonly referring to themselves as the “core four,” friends of mine; Christina Braid, Faith Camilleri, Jaden Farhat, and Angela Lignelli, have started their junior season in hopes of defending the title that Immaculate Conception Varsity Softball has held for six consecutive years. Being juniors, this will be their third year as varsity athletes and seeking out that win for the seventh time for Immaculate. Listening to the group talk softball for hours each day, the anticipation for the season has been building up, and it’s finally here.

Holding a title for six consecutive seasons is a surreal feeling, unimaginable for most people. Camilleri, first baseman, relives the moment by telling me that, “After successfully winning the sixth title, I felt more accomplished than ever because I was able to fill in the shoes that were left by previous senior Ali Moran, and it made me feel proud of myself.” She went onto talk about her team and how hardworking everyone is, especially pitcher Caylee English, and the feeling of pride that she has given her team. She finished off by saying, “We proved so many people wrong being able to accomplish another state title, and what better feeling is that!”

With the season just only beginning a week ago, the varsity team will continue to prepare for their inevitable state game at the end of the season. Jaden Farhat, shortstop, says “I’m excited for our team to come together as a family, and hopefully make history. I can’t wait for the excitement when we win.” With confidence like that, it will surely be a season to watch out for. Be sure to attend their first game on April 3, and support them on their hopeful road to yet another success.
